Asking and Receiving

January 26,2023

I came near unto one of them that stood by, and asked him the truth of all this. So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things. Daniel 7:16

There are some teachings in the Bible that are so simple they’re easily overlooked or ignored. Asking and receiving from God is one of those. It’s not difficult to ask and receive from God, yet at times it can be a struggle to take our concerns to Him.

What about Daniel? How did he cope with his cares? Daniel was given vivid visions without their meaning. He understood they were important but he did not know why. This bothered Daniel so he asked for an answer.

Daniel Was Not Afraid

Daniel was troubled within, due to what he had seen in the visions, yet we find he was not afraid to ask for an answer. Daniel wanted to know the truth concerning the visions.

At times fear can keep us from seeking after the truth. Perhaps fear of the answer, we simply don’t want to hear the truth because it might bring conviction to the heart. Or maybe fear of rejection. We don’t like asking questions that remain unanswered, or even worse, being told no.

Don’t let fear prevent you from seeking after the truth. Read God’s Word. Ask the LORD to show you His truth, so He can be glorified. If you need better understanding concerning a matter, ask God for wisdom.

Daniel Was Not Ashamed

Daniel did not have all of the answers and was willing to admit it. He didn’t assume to know all things or pretend to understand the meaning of the visions. Daniel asked for help.

Pride hinders spiritual knowledge. The proud heart will not ask for an answer. It would rather continue in ignorance than admit the need for assistance. This is one of the ways pride makes fools out of people.

Don’t be ashamed to ask for an answer or to seek God’s help. He already knows your limitations. He’s aware of your shortcomings. Admit your weaknesses, submit your will to God, and ask Him for answers to your problems.

Daniel Was Answered

Daniel’s request did not fall on deaf ears. He was heard and answered. Because Daniel asked for more, he was given more.

We’re encouraged to cast our cares upon God, yet we often hold on to those troubles. This leads to misery and discouragement. I guess some would rather trudge through life, bearing their burdens in their own strength, instead of seeking God’s power for their problems.

The LORD is ready and willing to carry your burdens, but they must be given to Him. Daniel asked and received. If you want more, simply ask God for it, more wisdom for your problems or strength for your trials.

Daniel received wisdom after he asked for understanding. God hears and answers the prayers of the righteous. Be willing to ask so that you may receive.
