Dangers and Doubts

And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? Mark 4:40

Jesus Christ concluded His teaching as the sun set on the day.  He joined His disciples in a ship and set sail across the Sea of Galilee. While crossing the sea Jesus Christ and His disciples found themselves in the midst of a terrible storm. When the cold air comes off the mountains and hits the warm air escaping the Sea of Galilee it can produce great storms over the water. It appears that’s what happened on this occasion. Waves beat against the side of the ship tossing it all about. Water splashed inside threatening to take the ship down. At this point the disciples began to fear for their lives. It’s good to remember that many of these men grew up on the water, if they were fearful it must have been a terrible storm. With their faith shaken, doubts soon filled their hearts.

  1. Protection – they doubted Jesus Christ’s ability to protect them from the trouble.
  2. Power – they doubted Jesus Christ’s strength to get them through the trouble.
  3. Patience – they were unable to wait upon Jesus Christ to provide in the trouble.

The problem. Their faith was determined by their circumstance. Because the storm was great their faith was small.

There will be storms in life, unexpected trials that alter your plans and change your direction. These moments might shake your faith and you may be tempted to doubt the Lord. In times like these you must look to Jesus Christ for strength, knowing He will never leave you nor forsake you.

It’s a mistake to base God’s care on your surroundings or situation. Trust God at all times and you will find Him faithful.
