Let’s Be Honest

Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight. Proverbs 12:22

There are many ways you can please the LORD. One way is through honesty. Being truthful is a delight to God.

In this proverb we’re reminded that lying is a serious sin. It’s forbidden in the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:16) and is an abomination to the LORD. A lie disgusts God. Any lie, for any reason.

A lie gives a false impression; such as wrong being right or sin being good. A problem with this is that truth will prevail and those that follow a lie will suffer the consequences.

Lying also ruins lives. A false word can destroy a person’s character, and the liar, when discovered, will lose credibility.

Many have found out that one lie easily leads to another. Lies can multiply rapidly if one is not careful.

Nothing good comes from lying. People are deceived, lives are destroyed, and God is disgusted. The problems produced by dishonesty are numerous.

Avoid the temptation to lie or be deceptive. Make a conscience decision to be honest in all of your dealings.

Your Conversation – let your words be truthful and refrain from deceptive conversation.

Your Conduct – your actions should back up your words. Avoid saying one thing and then doing something else.

Your Circumstances – be honest at all times, knowing there is never a good time to lie.

An honest person is a blessing to others. They can be trusted and confided in. Most importantly, it pleases God when you’re honest.
